Why write an E-Book?

When you see someone who has turned his passion into a profit always ask yourself:
“Why not me?”

(Donny Deutsch, host of “The Big Idea” on CNBC)

Writing an E-Book is probably the easiest way to turn your passion into a profit. It doesn’t cost you almost anything except time. You have no per-copy expenses like in print. A file can be used as many times as you want. You never run out of it.

However profit is not the only reason.

“Sharing knowledge increases productivity on both sides”

While writing the book you will certainly have to do some research on the topics you’re writing about. This way your knowledge will increase. Besides that when you write something your readers may give you feedback. Maybe their knowledge is greater than yours on some of the discussed topics and they will share it with you helping you to improve the book. Maybe they will ask you a question you don’t know the answer to but you will try to find the answer and doing so you come across something new and interesting. You may have thought about a particular issue in one way but it could be seen in another way as well. If you share your ideas and knowledge hopefully others will share them with you too. Resulting in more knowledge hence more productivity for them and for you.

You should always provide a way for people to get in touch with you. Constructive feedback and criticisms are there to improve your work not to destroy it.

If you write an E-Book first of all do it for yourself. Don’t think in financial terms but in creativity terms.

Why now?

Because I think this is the right moment. This is the moment for Mobile Devices hence also for E-Books. If you don’t start now in a few years you may ask yourself: Why didn’t I do that back then? What if I had written a book? The only way to find out is to try.

Advantages of an E-Book compared to a book

For the authors it makes things easier and cheaper. You are your own boss and can manage it all by yourself. You can even sell it on your own and send out updates to your customers if you want.

For the readers they can carry it with them wherever they go on portable devices (iPad, iPod Touch, iPhone, Laptop computer, Tablet PC, …) and it doesn’t weigh anything. They can get updates. They can copy and paste where needed and simply click on a link to download something or get more informations. It’s easier to find what they’re looking for with the PDF reader’s search feature and jump from one chapter to another with internal links.

What are the downsides?

I don’t know about you but I’m already looking at a computer screen all day long so I really like to read books in paper format. However people can print E-Books if they want. I guess I wouldn’t buy a romance of more than 60 pages as an E-Book. I think E-Books are especially good for tutorials not that much for romances. Anyway you can write any kind of book you want. is an company.
